While there is no law specifically banning the game of online poker in Canada, the Government of Ontario has passed a bill outlawing poker sites from advertising their products to the people of Ontario. This prevents online poker sites being hosted and run within Canadian borders, but it doesn't stop Canadian poker players from registering their details with those sites that are hosted outside of Canada.

While Candian players also have issues with playing poker online, the laws governing online poker in Canada are slightly different to those found in the United States.
The main difference between online gaming in the two countries is that gaming law in Canada focuses on the operator as opposed to the player. This means that while it's illegal to start up your own online poker site, there are absolutely no problems registering with a site as a player.
Online poker is 100% legal for Candian poker players. Unfortunately, some poker sites refuse to accept Canadian players although this is purely due to the fact that they're concerned Canada might pass gambling laws in the future.
That looks highly unlikey though, so Canadian poker players can be assured that there are a number of poker sites that will welcome them with open arms.
