888 have been in the news a lot over the course of the last few months. After a number of rumours suggesting their potential take over, they agreed a deal with Las Vegas giant Caesars to release a number of new games to the European market. However, the takeover stories have now returned and appear to have some weight to them with the confirmation that the Chairman of 888 Holdings Gigi Levy has stepped down from his position. Levy has been seen as the company’s guiding light for years. An official press release from the UK gambling company has announced that he has decided to step down after being satisfied that the organisation was ‘well positioned for the future.’ However, stories in the British Media today are suggesting that the real reason for Levy’s decision is down to frustration over the ongoing take over talks with Ladbrokes. Whatever the real read More...

Reports in the London press yesterday suggested that Ladbrokes had begun to explore the possibilities of a £2.2bn merger with Playtech, the world’s largest casino software provider. However, further press reports today have suggested that the rival UK bookmaker, William Hill might be able to block such a move thanks to an agreement that they have with Playtech stretching back to 2008. Rumours regarding the future of Ladbrokes surfaced yesterday when the Daily Telegraph reported that the popular UK bookmaker had instructed UBS and Greenhill investment banks to look into possibilities of a strategic merger with Playtech. Any deal agreed with Playtech would be separate to the attempt by Ladbrokes to purchase the online gaming group 888 for a price rumoured to be around £240m. The idea was said to have come from new chief executive Richard Glynn who is faced with the task of solving Ladbrokes’ long term of read More...

A few weeks ago we reported that 888 looked to be on the verge of a merger with the popular UK bookmaker Ladbrokes. However, according to reports coming out of Israel today, it seems as though Ladbrokes may well be facing competition from the casino giant, Playtech. The Israeli paper, Calcalist has suggested that Playtech has made an offer worth around $200m for the one-time gambling giant. The offer shows how far the value of 888 has fallen – when they first launched on the London Stock Exchange they were valued at $1 billion – but would still be a good price given that current stock levels value the copmany at around £169m. Despite the price, there’s a belief that 888 will rebuff this latest offer given that previous offers in the past have been knocked back, including much larger offers than Playtech’s. Indeed, the offer Ladbrokes made last month read More...

Bet365 are rumoured to be considering making an offer for the domain gambling.com, which went on sale today with an asking price of $10m. However, according to media reports, they may well face competition from casino software giant Playtech who understandably believe that the domain would add considerable value to their business. The sale will be organised by Sedo Holdings AG on behalf of Media Corp, a UK based marketing company who are currently using gambling.com to run a casino portal and news based site. “This will be one of the biggest domain sales in history, and it shows how far the online gambling industry has come worldwide,” said Market Analyst Steve Schwartz. “It is not even known what the new owner will do with the site, but it certainly will be well worth the purchase price.” The domain was orginally purchased by Merdia Corp back in 2005 for the read More...

Thursday afternoon saw Ladbrokes poker, the largest online gambling company in the UK, announced that they’d be launching anonymous tables in their poker room. For those of you not familiar with the Anonymous tables concept, it’s really very similar to how you’d normally play your poker. The only difference is that players can no longer see each others names or their avatars. Ladbrokes states that by not knowing who you’re playing, you can “Forget about any history players may have on you and focus on the present” As a player sitting down to the table, your opponents won’t know who you are. If they have any notes on you, then they won’t show up and any tracking software that they might have in place will be ineffective with this new anonymous system. What this does mean is that you’ve got an opportunity to try out any new moves and strategies read More...

Poker Growth Research released on Monday has shown that gambling in the UK has risen by 40 per cent in the last twelve months. The online marketing research group Nielsen has shown that an additional 3.2 million people logged in to various gaming websites and casinos in the last year – a figure which is perhaps put into context by the fact that Facebook grew by 2.2 million accounts over the same period. It would seem that online poker and bingo have been the main benefits of this surge with Party Poker recently announcing that they had grown their audience by 174% last year while their sister site Party Casino grew by an impressive 360%. The female demographic has also grown rapidly with the play free bingo online offers. Nielsen claim 46% of all online gamblers are now women and that figure is set to continue growing as gaming sites read More...
