MGM, Boyd Gaming Apply for Nevada Online Poker License
MGM Resorts and Boyd Gaming are just two of a dozen or so groups interested in applying for licenses to participate in regulated online gaming in Nevada. So far, twelve groups have applied for such a license that would allow them to be a part of any Nevada intrastate online gaming industry that would appear in the near future, probably starting with online poker.
Two more queries are expected before all is said and done: PartyPoker and World Poker Tour will likely also apply to get a piece of the Nevada regulated online poker market, though MGM and Boyd were not necessarily among the field of groups expected to make such an announcement, so there’s no telling who could throw their hat into the ring.
MGM is a famous casino gaming company that is headquartered in Las Vegas. MGM runs brick-and-mortar casinos all over the world, with famous casino names like the Bellagio.
In the past few months, we’ve seen Caesars Entertainment join the line. Caesars owns the World Series of Poker brand, and their move to be part of the regulation is the best sign of all that World Poker Tour would have to get in on the action. 888 Holdings is another recent Nevada applicant, and with 888′s recent announcement of a merger with Caesars about 888′s European online software being licensed for use in America, we will likely see 888 and Caesars team up to participate in any future Nevada online poker regulation.
This is a complete list of the 12 applicants for Nevada poker licenses since rumors of state regulation broke in Nevada:
Cantor G&W applied for a license as an online poker service provider.
South Point Poker applied for a license as an online poker operator.
IGT applied for a license as a generic manufacturer and/or service provider.
888 Holdings applied for three different licenses: as manufacturer, distributor, and service provider.
Bally Technologies is another dual license applicant, looking to act as both a manufacturer and service provider.
Shuffle Master is lining up to be an online poker service provider.
Aristocrat Technologies is another multi-applicant, applying to be a manufacturer, distributor, and service provider.
Monarch Casino made an application to be an operator.
Caesars Entertainment also applied for an operator’s license.
Boyd Gaming has applied for an operator’s license.
Fertitta Interactive applied for licenses as an operator and service provider.
MGM Resorts Online have also applied for a license as an operator.
With licenses stacking up over the past few months, many expect the state government to make an official decision soon. Nevada lawmakers have announced that they are looking over the licensing paperwork but have not announced when licenses could be issued or when online gaming or online poker may actually start within the borders of Nevada.
