How to Place Arbitrage Bets The word “arbitrage” is most often used in investing situations to refer to a profit made from mis-pricing or the difference between two quotes. Arbitrage betting is placing two or more bets simultaneously at different sportsbooks when the bookmakers’ prices are different enough that all outcomes are covered. In other words, no matter the outcome, the bettor turns a profit. In gambling parlance, an arbitrage bet is usually just called an “arb.” Poker players who want to increase their online gaming winnings should learn about arb bets. How Arbitrage Happens Here’s an example of an arbitrage bet. Ladbrokes offers – 2.20 for Team A and 1.72 for Team B Intertops offers – 2.39 for Team A and 1.91 for Team B If you back both players the right way, you’ll have a small guaranteed profit. Wager on Team A with Ladbrokes and Team B with Intertops. If you want to wager $1,000 total, read More...

The Mathematics of Sports Betting Unless you are an expert handicapper or the luckiest guy on Earth, the sportsbooks know they’re very likely to make money off you. People think that betting on sports is like betting on blackjack. The thought process goes like this: if I understand all the math behind a bet, if I play this bet with optimum strategy, I can expect a positive return, I can win more often than I lose. Unfortunately, even a perfect understanding of the mathematics of sports betting won’t turn you into a millionaire by placing sports bets. Successful sports bettors almost always have an intellectual understanding of betting math and betting odds. Quotes from guys like Mike Orkin, a statistics professor in California, pop up all over the web when you search for gambling advice. Orkin famously instructs that gamblers will never win unless they wrap their heads around the read More...

Today saw Pokerstars confirming that they had added 29 year old Ukrainian Eugene ‘MyRabbiFoo’ Katchalov to their Pro Team. The move completes a highly successful year for Katchalov who shot to fame after he conquered the 2007 WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic and took home a cheque for almost $2.5m. His success didn’t end there though and over the next couple of years he cashed 11 times in the World Series of Poker before finishing third in the EPT’s High Roller Event in London, winning over $300,000. 2010 proved to be equally successful with Katchalov showing off his versatility by reached three WSOP final tables in HORSE, No Limit Hold’em and Omaha Hi/Lo and this year Pokerstars saw his skills first hand when he won the $100,000 Super High Roller Event at the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure before coming second in the $10k No Limit Holdem Six Max read More...

We brought you news a little while ago of a split between Pokerstars and the former WSOP Main Event champion, Greg Raymer. Well the latest twist in this story is that Raymer has arrived at the upcoming NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship with a Full Tilt logo on his arm. Very few people in the industry expected Raymer to be without a sponsor for long, but it’s nevertheless a big surprise to see that Pokerstars’ long term rival has stepped up to the plate and offered him deal. Any agreement is rumoured to be short term, and may well have something to do with the fact that Raymer is likely to get an awful lot of air time over the course of the Heads Up Championship as he has been drawn against Mike Matusow – the man whose tongue never gave Raymer a moment’s peace during his historic 2004 WSOP read More...

When Peter Eastgate won the WSOP Main Event in 2008, he was the youngest player ever to achieve the feat. Aged just 21, his victory won him millions of dollars and the adoration of millions. It also thrust him into the spotlight very suddenly and the young Dane found that he didn’t like the fame and attention that his unexpected victory bought him. As a result he ended up selling his WSOP bracelet on eBay and donating $100,000 of the price it fetched to UNICEF. His actions raised a lot of questions from a poker community that would have given almost anything to be in his position. But Eastgate refused to answer those questions … until today, when he came clean about why he needed to get away from the limelight for a bit, and perhaps more importantly to announce that he was making a return to professional poker. “Sometimes read More...

While on his way to Texas, the 11 time WSOP champion tweeted that he had done a bit of training, but wouldn’t be taking things any further. “I took dancing lessons for a week (“1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2?); Thought I was going to be on ‘Dancing with the Stars!’ I had a few skillz!” Speculation about the Poker Brat’s appearance on the show surfaced towards the end of last year when Brian Balsbaugh (Hellmuth’s agent) mysteriously Tweeted that “If you think @Phil_Hellmuth is great TV, you’re gonna love 2011.” This was shortly followed up by a tweet from Hellmuth himself who wrote: “OMG!
Kathy Liebert has started the poker rumour mill turning with a Tweet that she made hinting at changes in the Pokerstars Pro team which involve former WSOP Main Event Winner Greg Raymer. “I heard that PokerStars was cutting many of their Team Pros’ compensation. Take it or leave it. Greg Raymer left it.” This Tweet was then followed by another stating “I think it’s a bad business decision to cut their pay, but most won’t have a better offer, so they stay.” If the above statement is true, then this is sure to surprise more than a few people in the poker community. Raymer is one of the game’s biggest characters and is known as much for his “Fossilman” sunglasses as for taking home the WSOP Main Event title in 2004 (along with $5m). Since then, Raymer has been heavily active in supporting the Poker Players Alliance, which is lobbying read More...

The former UB Poker professional has officially been confirmed as the commissioner for a new (and yet to be named) Professional Poker League. The League is planning on hosting four different tournaments each year, including a $1m FreeRoll Championship which is sure to attract a huge number of players. In an interesting twist though, only members who hold a qualifying “card” will be eligible to take part in the new tournaments and these cards will be handed out to the ‘best’ players (as calculated by a mathmatical formula) on a 2 year, 3 year and 5 year basis and there are already suggestions that a handful of Lifetime Membership Cards will be given to the true legends of the game. If you’re facing that situation at the moment though, spare a thought of Viktor Blom who many thought had been hiding behind his online identity of Isildur1 to foster a sense of mystery to poker community. It turns out though that Blom might have been keeping his real identity a secret for another reason though: tax evasion. The Government in Blom’s home country of Sweden are well known for levying huge taxes on gambling and now that Blom’s real identity has come out, they haven’t been quick on getting in touch to let the online poker star know that he is currently under investigation.
