Born in the New Jersey suburbs on February 1st 1976, Phil Ivey has gone on to be regarded by many as the world's best all round poker player.
His rise to prominance began at an early age when he would sneak into various casinos in neighbouring Atlantic City. Armed with a fake ID, he would spend hours playing Seven Card Stud in the Taj Mahal where he began to make a name for himself amongst the locals.
Since then, his name grown to be widely recognised around the world and his agressive style has won a large army of fans.
Ivey is predominately a cash game player who is happy to participate in all forms of poker. His preferred game is the mixed $k-$8k mixed game in Las Vegas where he can be found mixing it up with the best players in the world although he is also a regular on various popular TV shows such as "High Stakes Poker" and "Poker after Dark."
Despite his focus on cash games, Mr Ivey also has a very enviable CV in poker tournaments. In 2002, he won three separate bracets at the WSOP trying Phil Hellmuth Jr, Jeff Lisandro, Puggy Pearson and Ted Forrest for the largest number of single wins in a year. In total, Ivey has now won 7 WSOP bracelets across a wide range of styles including Pot Limit Omaha, Seven Card Stud, 2-7 Lowball and Omaha Hi/Lo. He is currently the youngest player ever to achieve this feat.
His expertise also stretches to Texas Hold'em where Ivey was one of the "November 9" who battled it out for the No Limit Holdem Championship in 2009. He finished in 7th place and took home a little under $1.5m.
Outside of the WSOP, Ivey has also enjoyed great success on the World Poker Tour where he currently holds the record for making the most WPT final tables ever with a total of eight. He only won one of these appearances netting him another $1.5m.
When it comes to online, Phil Ivey can regularly be found playing at Full Tilt Poker who are his primary sponsor. He has had equal success there where he is believe to have won in the region of $10m playing the $2k/4k games.
Away from the poker table, Ivey is a big sports fan and follows the LA Lakers, Houston Rockets and Buffalo Bills. He also plays a mean round of golf having finished in third place at last years inagural Word Series of Golf.
