Daniel Negreanu

Born in Toronto in 1974, Daniel Negreanu is one of the most popular players on the poker tour. Players shouldn’t underestimate his friendly demeanour though because underneath that big smile lies an uncanny ability to read opponents hands and an analytical mind that is continually weighing up the best course of action. In short, Negreanu is a fantastic player to watch ... but not the kind of person you want to find sitting opposite you.

However, Negreanu’s path to poker professional wasn’t quite as straight forward as some of his peers. Having moved to Vegas as the age of 22 with dreams of making it big, he was forced to return to Toronto when he quickly went broke. However, he was not to be put off.

He turned professional in 2007 and quickly built a reputation for himself. He won his first WSOP bracelet playing Pot Limit Hold Em in 1998 and would soon win three more in 2003, 2004 (when he was also nominated “Player of the Year”) and most recently in 2008 when he won a $2k Limit Hold Em Tournament and took home $205.

Outside of the WSOP, Mr Negreanu has also won two WPT titles and is currently the leading earner on the WPT
